THE ITINERARY

Due to the weather factor, any attempt to precisely determine the flight path for Breitling Orbiter 3 would be uncertain. By way of proof, a simulation carried out by Meteo Suisse based on real data has shown that for an identical date of departure, two significantly different routes could be sketched out, one taking 10 days and the other 19 days.

Despite this ambiguity, one may guess that, on leaving Château-d'Oex, the balloon will move towards the Mediterranean to join the jet stream between the 30th and 40th North parallel. It will then fly over Greece, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, China and Japan, before making the long Pacific crossing to the North American coast, flying over the United States and the Atlantic, and returning to Europe.
